What information do I need for you to be able to indentify my motor?

Because there are so many different variations and applications available, we need as much information as possible:

  • Engine Number
  • Application
  • Month and Year*
  • Turbo or Naturally Aspirated

What are Semi Finished Liners?

Semi-finished liners once fitted to the cylinder block require boring and honing to size. Finished liners are supplied pre-bored and once fitted may only require a light hone. Liners basically come in two different flavours: Parallel and Flanged. A description of these are below:   Parallel Liner: As it says, the parallel liner is flat on all edges. These are held in the block by an ‘interference’ or ‘press fit’. Meaning the liner is marginally bigger than the parent bore of the motor. When these are pressed into place, they may distort and conform to the shape of the parent bore. Available only in semi-finished. (needs to be bored to size)   Flanged Liner: Yet again, as the name implies, these liners have a flange at the top. This flange locates into a counterore cut into the top of the parent bore. These liners can be either ‘press’ or slip’ fit. Available in either; finished (pre-sized) or semi-finished. (needs to be bored to size)

Why does my engine blow black smoke

Why does my diesel engine blow Black smoke? Black Smoke: It indicates poor and incomplete combustion of the diesel fuel.

  • Block air filter or intake system
  • Problem with fuel injector pump or injectors
  • Engine timing out
  • Low cylinder compression (i.e. cylinders, piston rings, ring grooves)
  • Restricted induction system
  • Excessive carbon build up in combustion and exhaust spaces
  • Incorrect valve clearance

Why does my Engine blow Blue smoke

Why does my diesel engine blow Blue smoke? Blue Smoke:  is an indication of oil being burnt.

  • Low cylinder compression (i.e. cylinders, piston rings, ring grooves)
  • Worn oil rings – sticky oil rings when cold.
  • Worn valve guides or seals
  • Cylinder glazed
  • Incorrect grade of oil (e.g. oil too thin, and migrating past the rings)
  • Fuel dilution in the oil (oil thinned out with diesel)
  • High engine oil level

Why does my engine blow White smoke

Why does my diesel engine blow White smoke? White Smoke: occurs when raw diesel comes through the exhaust completely intact and unburned

  • Faulty glow plugs
  • Low engine cranking speed
  • Problem with fuel injector pump or injectors
  • Incorrect injection timing (could be a worn timing gear or damaged crankshaft keyway).
  • Fuel air leak
  • Low cylinder compression (i.e. cylinders, piston rings, ring grooves)
  • Incorrect valve clearance

Where do i find my perkins engine number

The later model Perkins have ID tags riveted to the cylinder block near the injector pump They normally start of with

  • 2 Alpha Letters        AA
  • 5 numbers               12345
  • the letter “U”            U
  • 5 more numbers      56789
  • 1 alpha letter            L

you can also check our  engine number guide link   The later, older engines had their engine numbers stamped into the cylinder. A lot of people get confused with the casting numbers or the numbers off the Injector pump. Unfortunately this can not assist our sales staff with identifying your Perkins Engine if your unsure contact one of our Sales staff
