Engine identification

The first two letters of the engine number give an

indication of the engine type as shown below.

CO   3.152  engine

CE    03.152, 03.152(M) and  3HD46  engines

CJ     3.1522 engine

CM  3.1524 engine CN         T3.1524 engine

The engine number is stamped on a machined pad on the right side of the cylinder block forward of the fuel lift pump (see fig. A1). A typical engine number is CJ30060U5 10251.

Recommended torque tensions 3-152 Perkins

The torque tensions given below will apply with the components lightly lubricated with clean engine lubricating oil before assembly.

Valve clearance .010 , .010 hot   or .012, .012 cold

Cylinder head nuts (cold) 81 Nm (60 lbf ft.)
Cylinder head nuts/setscrews (cold) 95 Nm (70 lbf ft.)
Connecting rod self-locking nuts (not plated} 95 Nm (70 lbf ft.)
Connecting rod nuts (cadmium plated) 61 Nm (45 lbf ft.)
Connecting rod nuts (phosphated) 81 Nm (60 lbf ft.)
Main bearing setscrews 150 Nm (110 lbf ft.)
Idler gear hub setscrew 68 Nm (50 lbf ft.)
Camshaft gear setscrews 28 Nm (21 lbf ft.)
Balance weight setscrews 75 Nm (55 lbf ft.)
Flywheel setscrews 106 Nm (78 lbf ft.)
